Painless Ways To Lower The Heating Bill

Winter time comes but with a price. One of them is the hiking heating bills that usually accompany this cold season. While you cannot do anything about the cold, you can certainly do some things to save on your heating bills.

For one, you should shut the door of the rooms which you don’t use so much. And close the vents in those rooms. With those rooms closed, less heat would be needed to heat the remaining rooms. You can also lower the temperature of the water heater. Doing so will reduce power consumption.

And the difference in water temperature is unnoticeable to most people anyway. Don’t forget to clean up or at least clear heating vents. Any obstruction will keep it from functioning well and from circulating heated air efficiently. When you go to sleep at night, lower the heat to half and you will notice a substantial reduction in your bill. Another simple trick for this is by closing your curtains at night. This will keep the heat from escaping through your windows.

On the other hand, you should keep all curtains facing south open during the day so that the heat of the sun can come in and help heat to penetrate too. These are but simple ways to lower your heating bills. They may seem nothing but you’d be surprised at how much they can actually lower power consumption. Small things when added together could actually give a bigger impact. Of course, you can also invest in some repairs and new appliances to lower heating costs. While you will incur additional costs today, it will save you a lot in the long run.

Another great tip to saving money on your heating bill is to use window and door cozies. These are really easy to make and then you place them at the bottom of the door or window where the drafts are likely to get in. These will help keep the cold air out and your heating bill low.

You can also try to layer more clothing. Instead of turning up the heat which will cost you money try to put on an extra sweater or another pair of socks.

Another good idea if you have kids is to teach them the importance of conserving energy. If they understand why, they will be more likely to help.

Heating blankets at night are also a great way to stay warm and snuggly and keep the heat low.
