Tips for Buying an Outdoor Fireplace

An outdoor fireplace can add ambiance and value to your home. From a basic free-standing pit to an elegant built-in design, there are many options to choose from.

Outdoor fireplaces can be made from stone, brick, concrete, stucco and a variety of other materials. It can stand alone or can be built into a landscaping feature such as a wall made of decorative rock. Built-in fireplaces are safer because they are enclosed and have a chimney that is designed to fuel the flames with fresh air and direct smoke up and away.

Fire pits are more portable due to their light weight. They also can have the appeal of being built in by placing them directly into the ground and surrounding them with fire resistant materials like stone, tile, brick or packed clay. Remember that outdoor fireplaces should always have a screen over them so that sparks are not spread.
