Furniture Styles
Contemporary Furniture Design- This style will also use clean lines, similarly to the modern furniture, but the contemporary has a smoother, more calming effect to it. While the modern will have sharp edges and bold corners, the contemporary takes a more curving approach. Circles, waves and other curved shapes are very prominent in the contemporary furniture world.
Antique Furniture Design – Antique styles are normally taken from European influenced furniture from the Revolutionary days. These designs will have a rustic look to them and generally are in browns and tans. Some pieces will even be purposely made to have areas where it looks worn out or faded.
Eclectic Furniture Design - If you are into mixing styles together, eclectic furniture is for you. This category is reserved for anyone who either can't decide between two styles, or wants to be adventurous and combine two or more together. It often comes out looking very unique and the mood and feel of the furniture will depend on the styles that were mixed.
Rustic Furniture Design – Rustic furniture is almost always made of wood or stone. Depending on the area the furniture is coming from, it can also be made of woven fabric or grass. Normally it was made from whatever could be found in the area. Again, much of this furniture will look older and homemade.
French furniture Design – Decorative pieces generally come from the French design. These pieces are generally covered in additional intricate wood work and carvings as well as bright and bold colors. They often contain very high quality fabrics as well. Normally the furniture will have a country feel to it, but have significantly more elaboration added to it.
Roman Furniture – These pieces are almost always very large. Their influence will date back to near the fifteenth century when stone and marble were being used heavily, so expect to see that present. Many of them will also come with elaborate bases or pedestals.
Modern furniture - Modern furniture tends to be very sharp. It has a clean look to it by using very clean lines and a variety of solid colors and materials like chrome, vinyl and plastic. This style will over a very different look from the classic or traditional furniture you may be used to seeing and will very often have dual or multi- purpose pieces.
