Tips for Decorating a Games Room
You have your own game room, and you want to make it look really awesome with that new pool table or those new games that you've had your eye on for some time. What should you consider, though?
The first thing you need to consider is your budget. Always look at what you're going to spend. If you want the newest tables and games, be prepared to pay considerably more. If you can only afford a few grand, you might want to consider used tables or classic games that will be sold on the cheap.
Factor number two is the amount of space you have available. If you have a big basement, that would be perfect for a game room. If you have a den that is at least 20 feet square, that would be a great option. It's bad form to try to squeeze a pool table into an 8 foot by 8 foot room.
Another factor is: Do the items go with the decor? Are you going for a calming motif or a vibrant room? If you're uncertain, go with green or blue felt for your billiard table, because those colors will go with any theme you're trying for. If you want a vintage style, you can always hang classic posters in dark frames. Sports themed rooms can be done with jerseys hanging on the wall or setting up a cocktail bar in the game room. In either case, the games you put in will probably be universally liked. People are going to play them and enjoy them.
One more idea: Neon signs are a bit pricey, as a good neon sign will cost you $150-$250, but they are an awesome way of lighting a room, and they can last 15 to 20 years if you take good care of them, with a surprisingly minimal amount of electrical use (50 to 300 watts, depending on number of colors and size of the sign).
